NIFE Kick-Off Winter Meeting -
Eastwood Company, Alsip, IL
Join us on Saturday, November
14, 2015 as we take our NIFE club meeting on the road! We will gather
at 10:00am at the Eastwood Company Store located at 12100 South Cicero
Avenue in Alsip, IL 60803. Who is Eastwood and what do they do? The
Eastwood Company provides products for automotive enthusiasts for both
restoration and customization purposes. They are an industry pioneer
in serving the DYI auto enthusiasts for over 35 years. This store
in Alsip is very unique in that it incorporates a special experimental
format, which includes hands on use of their products, as well as
interactive training products. This store features a true workshop
environment with project vehicles onsite, educational classes, and
opportunities to try products before you purchase them. During our
time here, we will learn about all this store has to offer in a
presentation designed just for our club.
During our meeting-time, we will be attending their seminar discussing
rust coatings and repair. What does this have to do with our plastic
bodied Fieros? Well, pull your carpet away from the sides of the trunk
and more likely than not, you will see evidence of frame rust. How do
you attack this issue? What products do you use? We will find out
during this presentation presented specifically for us.
After the meeting (around noon), join us for a club
lunch as we caravan South on Cicero Avenue a short distance to the
Barraco’s Ristorante located at 13445 S. Cicero Avenue in Crestwood,
IL 60445. Barraco’s serves a variety of sandwiches and pizzas.

ever built -- as well as details about our amazing universe. We will
see the 40-inch refractor, still the largest lens-type telescope in
the world, which began research work back in 1897.
After the tour we will travel
to Skip's located at 99 S Walworth Ave, Williams Bay, WI 53191 for lunch.
We will view more of the lovely scenery of Fall in Wisconsin/Northern

NIFE in the Hot Rod Power Tour -
Madison, WI to Baton Rouge, LA
Full details and
information on this event can be found on the NIFE Hot Rod Power Tour
Page
The 2015 Hot Rod Power Tour
is coming through northern Illinois once again this year! This is a
great chance to get up close and personal to see what this great event
is all about! The Power Tour consists of seven cruise nights in seven
cities across the USA in seven days, starting this year on Saturday
June 6, 2015, in Madison, WI with a car show from 10:00am-7:00pm. It
then leaves the morning after, following a predetermined route to the
next city where there is a cruise night between 12:00pm-7:00pm; and
then repeats again for the next five days. Participants can stay at
the cruise nights as long as they like and arrive at their leisure.
Some cruise nights have had up to 5,000 participants. There are vendor
giveaways and games played throughout the day and sometimes even some
special events are available to participants (open drags, hot laps
around race tracks, autocross, etc.). The driving route between the
cruise nights in past years has taken the tour through small towns and
on paved country roads that avoid the Interstate as much as possible.
They usually range between 200-300 miles between each leg. Because the
tour drives through areas that aren’t designed to handle this amount
of traffic, many times traffic backs up for a mile or more along the
route and into the venues. Despite this, it is an unforgettable sight
driving with magnificent cars as far as the eye can see in front of
you, as well as behind you; with people on the street watching and
waving as the cars go by. Throughout the whole tour, anyone can join
in or leave at anytime, or do the entire trip and be a
“Long Hauler.”
Registration fees depend on how much of the tour you do. Here is
an insider tip: if you plan on attending more than two cruise
nights, it is cheaper to pay the
Long Hauler fee than
to pay for each day separately. Last year, five NIFE members joined
and cruised with us for the last three stops of the tour. Other
participants of the tour respect our Fieros and perceive them as an
icon of “Pontiac Excitement”.
The Power Tour doesn’t
only consist of only ‘60/’70’s muscle cars, custom rides, or street
rods, there are also new, exotic, and daily driven cars that
participate too. Participant’s cars don’t have to be in show condition
to be part of the Power Tour
because there is no judging at any of the venues. This event is
more about the enjoyment of driving, community and friendships.
The 2015 dates and venues are as follows: Saturday -
June 6, 2015 - Alliant Energy Center, Madison, WI Sunday - June 7,
2015 - Parkland College, Champaign, Illinois Monday - June 8, 2015
- Gateway Motorsports Park, Madison, Illinois (St. Louis) Tuesday -
June 9, 2015 - Memphis International Raceway, Memphis, Tennessee
Wednesday - June 10, 2015 - Hoover Metropolitan Stadium,
Hoover/Birmingham, Alabama Thursday - June 11, 2015 - TBD Friday
- June 12, 2015 - Lamar Dixon Expo Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Saturday – June 13, 2015 - Lamar Dixon Expo Center, Baton Rouge,
Louisiana (only for people that have done the whole tour since
Madison, WI)
Three other NIFE members and I have already made plans to attend the
first four days (and possibly further) (Madison, WI to Memphis, TN) of
this year’s tour. If you plan on attending, hotels need to be booked
soon, as many hotels at each stop are already selling out. We will
plan meeting spots just outside each venue so that we can park
together and also meeting spots in the morning to cruise together for
the day’s drive. The actual tour route will not be released
until about one month before the event starts, so these meeting spots
will not be planned until the route is released. Please RSVP to
myself so that I can update you with hotel information and meeting
locations for each day as the event draws near.

NIFE Cruise Night - Wheaton, IL
Join us for a very special cruise night on Friday, June 5, 2015 in
downtown Wheaton, IL. What makes it special is that it is being held
during the “Taste Of Wheaton” weekend
(www.wheatonparkdistrict.com/events/taste). The theme for the cruise
night is “Made In America” featuring the Fiero. The Executive Director
of the downtown Wheaton Association has offered this cruise night date
to us. It is a family gathering as well. There is the “Taste” part of
the festivities featuring over ten food vendors from the area, bands
playing in the Memorial Park band shell, a beer garden, a carnival
full of rides and games, and a number of ice cream and popcorn shops
in the area. Our Fieros will be located on Hale St. between Front St.
and Wesley St. This is
the main route in-between the “Taste”/Park/band shell area, and the
carnival area. There will be hundreds of people at this event and is a
great opportunity to show off our Fieros. The cruise starting time
is 6:00pm. You will be allowed to enter and park your car from
5:00pm-7:00pm. The cruise lasts until 9:00pm, at which time you can
leave. There will be a special sign at the entrance of Front and Hale
Streets recognizing our NIFE club and the Fieros. See our website
(www.fierofocus.com/events) for further information and a map with
directions. We have been allotted up to thirty spaces, so come on out
and show how we are all “Preserving The Excitement”. |
May 28-31, 2015 |
Dells Run 2015 - Wisconsin Dells, WI:
It is time again for our annual Fiero
community pilgrimage to converge in the Wisconsin Dells. The Fiero
Fanatics of Wisconsin will be hosting Fiero owners from across the
country starting May 28, 2015 and running through May 31, 2015 for the
23rd annual Dells Run event. This event is four days of
Fiero fun with countless opportunities to meet new Fiero friends and
experience everything Fiero – from mild to wild! The Dells Run will
be the first stop on this year’s Midwest Fiero Club’s (MWFC) show
circuit. This year we will honor the 1987 Fiero Coupe, which
highlighted the updated front and rear facias that provided for a more
modern appearance. Each show on this year’s circuit will select its
“Best Interpretation” of a 1987 Fiero Coupe. The “Best Interpretation”
could be either a completely original Fiero,
or a wildly modified Fiero; it is up to you, as this will be a peer
judged award,
so you get to choose the car that you feel is the “Best
Interpretation”. The only requirement for winning is that this Fiero
needs to be based on the 1987 Fiero Coupe! Some of the events
planned include: parking lot poker, a variety of breakfast and dinner
options sponsored by the participating Fiero clubs, onsite
indoor/outdoor water parks, Dells antique shopping, lots of local
entertainment, and one of the BEST cars shows of the season. Of course
this event would not be complete without the traditional ‘Dells Run’
through the downtown area right after the big show! The host hotel
and show site will again be the Chula Vista Resort. Call
1-888-601-7053 to make your reservations. Please call early to
guarantee a room; ask for the “Fiero Fanatics Club” discount. It is a
beautiful location and the staff has been very accommodating to all
the Fiero people in the past. Please consider pre-registering for this
event. It is so much easier for the Wisconsin club to plan the event
if they have a good idea of how many cars will be in attendance. A
registration form is available to download on our website at
Fierofocus.com or visit fierofanatics.com for more information. On
Sunday, May 31, 2015, we will caravan back to Illinois after the
awards ceremony and traditional NIFE club photo. We plan to be back on
the road back home by 11:30am-12:00pm. Join us for great times and
good fun in the scenic Wisconsin Dells.

NIFE Club Meeting
- Spring Driving Tour - Racine, WI
Uncover your Fiero, get
ready for summer weather, and join your fellow NIFE members on
Saturday, May 9, 2015 for a spring cruise through southeastern
Wisconsin. First, we’ll stop at the Wind Point Lighthouse in Racine,
one of the oldest, tallest, lighthouses on Lake Michigan that is still
operational. Next, we’ll visit “Wingspread,” the 14,000-foot
prairie-style home Frank Lloyd Wright designed for the S.C. Johnson’s
third-generation leader H. F. Johnson and his family. It is a
remarkable place to tour, with features like a disappearing dining
room table, a teepee-inspired clerestory ceiling in the great room,
and the cantilevered “Romeo and Juliet” balcony in the bedroom. Also,
we’ll watch a screening of the history of the construction,
and the story of the owners.
After visiting Wingspread for about an hour, we will head out to lunch
at a local Racine restaurant, then depart for a five-mile drive south
to the S.C. Johnson Company headquarters campus in Racine, WI where we
will tour the Frank Lloyd Wright designed 13-story research tower,
where most of the S C Johnson products were developed, and Wright’s
Johnson Administration building. Next, we’ll see the modern,
award-winning Foster + Partners Fortaleza Hall, including the S.C.
Johnson Gallery. All of the tours are FREE, with plenty of parking. We
will leave from the McDonald’s at the Gurnee Mills shopping center at
9:30AM to start our “Inspired Architecture Tour”. This McDonald’s is
located at
EAST of the intersection of RT 132, at 5555 Grand Ave, Gurnee, West of I-94.

NIFE Club Meeting
- Streamwood Library - Streamwood, IL at 1:00pm
Pondering the idea that we would still
be hosting our annual Fierorama show twenty times later was never a
thought for me back in 1996. Who would have known? On Saturday April
18, 2015 we will meet at the Poplar Creek Library in Streamwood, IL
located at 1405 S. Park Avenue. The library is located between Irving
Park Rd (Rt. 19) and Lake Street (Rt. 20) and between Bartlett Road
and Barrington Road. The library parking lot is located to the West of
the library entrance, across the street, on the West side of S. Park
Avenue. Our meeting will start at 1:00pm. 2015 marks the 20th
edition of our Fierorama! Ever wonder when the first Fiero chop top
showed up at a Fierorama? What does “rain-o-rama” mean and how does
that relate to Fierorama? How have the Fierorama classes evolved over
the past twenty shows? All of these questions and many more will be
answered at this meeting. There is a lot of fun history that I have
uncovered during my research and I will enjoy sharing all of it with
you. We will be doing a live webcast of this meeting.

NIFE Club Meeting
- Streamwood Library - Streamwood, IL at 1:00pm
Ever think about doing a full,
frame-off restoration on your Fiero to make it “factory new” (or close
to it!)? On Saturday March 21, 2015 we will meet at the Poplar Creek
Library in Streamwood, IL located at 1405 S. Park Avenue. The Library
is located between Irving Park Rd (Rt. 19) and Lake Street (Rt. 20)
and between Bartlett Road and Barrington Road. The Library parking lot
is located to the West of the library entrance, across the street, on
the West side of S. Park Avenue. Our meeting will start at 1:00pm.
You will have an opportunity to hear how NIFE member Nick DiMonte has
completed this very project. Nick was an original Fiero owner back in
1985 when he bought an ‘86 SE. He kept it until 1991 and then was “Fieroless”
until 2007 when he acquired an ’88 GT with 137,000 miles. He decided
that he wanted a real challenging project, so the idea of a complete
frame-off restoration was born. His project has now come to completion
and he plans to have it on the road as soon as the weather permits
later next spring! While it has only been a part time “as time was
available” project (he took off about two years for personal reasons),
he has devoted five years to this restoration. The car appears factory
new, including a 1988 GM,
Fiero original power steering unit, plus an upgrade to a completely
rebuilt 3.4L engine! The car was originally black, is now painted ‘88
Fiero red. Come and listen to the history of this restoration – the
easy accomplishments, the more complicated endeavors, and the
frustrations along the way! We will be doing a live
webcast of this meeting.

NIFE Club Meeting
- Lisle Library - Lisle, IL at 1:00pm
On Saturday, February 14, 2015, NIFE
will have our third winter season club meeting. Our meeting will be
held at the Lisle Library located at 777 Front Street, which is at the
intersection of Kingston Avenue and Front Street (southeast corner) in
Lisle, IL. You can call 630-971-1675 for directions. Our meeting will
start at 1:00pm. Have you ever thought of repainting your Fiero or
changing the color, but decided that the cost was beyond your budget?
Have you ever thought of adding a design or perhaps even ghost flames
on your car, but when you saw the cost the only words that came to
your mind were, “Holy cow!”? Well, then this is a meeting you should
attend, because we will be discussing how to wrap a Fiero with high
performance colored or a digital printed design using vinyl. You can
have the worst faded or oxidized paint, but when you apply colored
vinyl or digital print graphics to your car it will look like new. One
benefit of a digital print is that you can incorporate your own
personal touch for less money than a custom paint job. If you would
like to see some of the possibilities for using vinyl first hand,
please attend the meeting. We will be doing a live webcast of this
meeting.

NIFE Club Meeting
- Lisle Library - Lisle, IL at 1:00pm
On Saturday, January 17, 2015, NIFE
will have our second winter season club meeting. Our meeting will be
held at the Lisle Library located at 777 Front Street, which is at the
intersection of Kingston Avenue and Front Street (southeast corner) in
Lisle, IL. You can call 630-971-1675 for directions. Our meeting will
start at 1:00pm. Rather than our “usual” two to three subject
topics per meeting, this meeting will cover what I am calling
“Common Fiero Idiosyncrasies”,
What
to do and How to do it!
We will have a “panel” of Fiero experts (NIFE members!), who will
discuss common issues, what causes them and what you should do to
either fix, repair, or prevent them in the future. I know you could
come up with a great list and we encourage you to recall your own
Fiero’s idiosyncrasies and introduce them to our “experts” at this
meeting! We had a similar
meeting last January 2014 and despite poor weather, we had a great
turnout to discuss these common problems with our Fiero! While the
items listed below are not comprehensive by any means, we will discuss
these and many more. Our topics will include items like: cooling fan
not coming on; engine stalls at a stop light (automatic transmission
car); how to know when the clutch is failing; symptoms of a bad fuel
pump; solving an erratic oil pressure gauge; headlight motors don’t
turn off after engine stops; symptoms of a bad ignition module; and
what to do when the gas gauge improperly
indicates the fuel level. I am sure you may have more of these! If you
would like something specifically addressed at this meeting that is
not in our list above, please send it to me no later than Saturday,
January 10, 2015 so we can have our “experts” be prepared to respond
